Retreat with Jesus: Day Twenty Five

The reading today tells of Jesus' response to the woman caught in adultery who was bought to him as he was teaching in the temple courts. If you google 'woman caught in adultery' the majority of 'hits' will show this familiar passage. You will also find some quite horrific pictures of women helplessly being stoned today for similar 'crimes' in the Middle East. Jesus lived amongst and responded to some very deep and real issues of his day - the woman before him was on the verge of being killed. Jesus acts with profound wisdom and exposes the hypocrisy of the accusers, saving her life. I love this story - it shows me a facet of Jesus that awakens hope within my heart to give me faith in God as a Father in heaven who loves His children, offering forgiveness in place of accusation.
